Obituary for Karen Kathryn Haas (Haas)
Karen Kathryn Haas passed away on Tuesday, February 28, 2023 in Salem, Oregon. Funeral services will be held at the Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center in Dallas, Oregon on Thursday, March 9, 2023 at 1:00pm.
Karen was born on December 9, 1941 in McMinnville, Oregon to the late Abia Haas and Eleanora Heringer Haas. Karen attended public school in Dallas, Oregon and graduated from the Oregon College of Education (Monmouth, Oregon). She was an elementary teacher at Eugene Field Elementary School in Silverton, Oregon for over thirty years.
During her lifetime, Karen enjoyed the outdoors, world travel, collecting children’s books, the Portland Trailblazers, sweets, word search puzzle books, and spending time with family at Devils Lake (Lincoln City, Oregon). Karen’s family and friends brought her comfort and joy.
Karen is preceded in death by her parents, Abia Haas and Eleanora Heringer Haas; stepmother, Esther Haas; brother, Carlyle Haas; and sister, Elizabeth “Jo” Haas Schmitke.
Karen is survived by her nieces, Alison Schmitke (Jerry Rosiek), Andrea Beyer (Andy), and Jocelyn Haas; great nieces and nephews, Nellie Schmitke-Rosiek, Kellen Beyer, Quinn Beyer, Carly Onstot and Emma Onstot; sister-in-law, Julie Haas; stepbrother, Robert Gordon (Jo); stepsister, Jan Gavin; and cousins, Joyce Topping (Greg), Arlene Douglass, Weston Heringer, Jr. (Nancy), and Faye Kenyon (Francis).
