Obituary for Jon Michael VanLeerdam

Jon Michael VanLeerdam, 40, passed away March 23, 2023 in his sleep. Jon was born in Manizales, Colombia on December 5, 1982 and was adopted along with his twin brother Philip in August 1984 by Doug and Loretta VanLeerdam.

He spent the first 6 years in Sheridan and then moved to what became the family farm outside of West Salem in 1990.
Jon attended Amity, Perrydale, and Western Mennonite schools. he loved playing Soccer, riding bulls, Choir, and hanging out with friends. He was also active in the Polk County 4H swine market program for a number of years.

Jon married Jessica Batson in October 2011 and together they had two daughters, Margaret and Penelope. While the couple later separated, Jon loved spending time with his girls.

Jon was a born talker and people person. He was great at meeting people and would like to talk to anyone. He loved his early careers of sales - be it cars, cell phones, or anything in between. In his later years he moved into construction, and finally worked in a metal fabrication shop.

Jon is survived by two daughters, Margaret and Penelope and their mother Jessica of McMinnville, his parents, Doug and Loretta VanLeerdam of Salem, his twin brother Philip of Salem, his sisters Tara (Chad) Bewley of Caldwell, Idaho, and Anna (Josh) Mclaren of Lincoln City, his grandmother Hilda (George) of Aumsville, 8 nieces and nephews, and numerous aunts, uncles, great aunts, great uncles, and lots of cousins.

a Memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 1, 2023 at 2:00 PM at the Sheridan Church of the Nazarene.
Assisting the family is Dallas Mortuary Tribute Center.
