Obituary for James Edward White

James Edward White, 82 passed away, Monday, March 11, 2024, at his home in Dallas, Oregon after a short convalescence from a fall and stroke in December of 2023.

Jim was born on September 2, 1941, in Leland, West Virginia and moved to California as a child of five. He graduated from El Cerrito High School in 1960. During his high school years, he met the love of his life, Emma Lee Hamm. They married in January of 1963 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in El Cerrito, California and had two children Mary (1964) and Rebecca “Beckie” (1965). The family lived in Pinole, California until 1972.

Jim was the ultimate “car guy,” starting in the car business as a teenager washing cars at his father’s used car lot in El Cerrito, California, then moving to sales positions at various dealerships in the bay area. He and his father bought a Toyota dealership in Fairfield, California in 1971, where he was both owner and general manager, running it as a thriving Solano County business for 23 years. The family moved to Vacaville, California in the summer of 1972 and he and Emma lived there until 2020. Over the past four years, he had also lived in Bolton, Connecticut and then Dallas, Oregon for the two years previous to his death. His loss will be keenly felt by all of his family and long-time friends.

He is predeceased by his parents, John L. and Virginia F. White of Fairfield, California, half-sister, Brenda Wilburn of Fulton, Ohio, and his daughter, Rebecca L. Joslin of Coventry, Connecticut. He is survived by his beloved wife of 61 years, Emma White of Dallas, Oregon, half-siblings James (and sister-in-law Becky) Wilburn, Nancy Bland, Patricia Suedleski, and Keith Wilburn, all of Ohio, daughter Mary Joslin of Salem, Oregon, grandchildren Katie Wendus, Nathan Joslin, Patrick Joslin, Michael Joslin, and Amanda Joslin all of Connecticut, Emma-Leigh Joslin of Salem, Oregon, and great-grandchildren, Evelyn and Eleanor Wendus and Rylee Joslin.
